Dan Rathbun

Proud son of the bluer parts of Kansas. I’ve been taking pictures ever since I bugged my dad to let me try the cranky old Pentax with a manual light meter at the renaissance festival when I was six. That roll did not turn out.

I studied photography in highschool. Won some awards, interned at the local paper when that was still a thing that you could do. Then the industry changed.

So due to life, the universe and everything else, the photojournalism career got removed from the menu options. I decided not to do the freelance hustle or weddings and got a day job to afford my lens and camera addiction.

I never stopped taking pictures though.

All throughout my life, everywhere I went, and all the people I met, I always had it strapped to my body. I had many fun adventures in Lawrence back in my 20s and 30s. Many of those photos will never see the light of day. Probably.

But I did get an amazing photographic collection of all my friends bands, collaborations with others on unique art projects. Including a live graffiti session where I had a digital projector showing what photo I just took on the wall.

Often I’d take picture just because something was really beautiful.

I put a lot of them here for you to peruse. I’ll probably add more later, so keep coming back.

If you want a print of anything, let me know. I’m working out a store thing now.

And if you’re in one of these and would like to not be, let me know and we can get that sorted as well.
